Unused Items used in the Quest:Stable Boy DiaryTrident Amulet Trident of the Fathers Trynnie Token |
This quest begins in the Upper Trynton Branches. The empty tree house to the left after passing the Rising Elms. |
In the house of the Stable Boy assigned to care for Bobo you will find
a Diary. The first pages tell of how he drugs Bobo so he can clean his
cage without fear as long as he is quick to do his job. Mostly mundane
boring entries about when the Trynnie started adding more animals to his
care and his dread of the crocodiles.
Then, an interesting entry catches your eye. He tells of the time he wandered in the Swamp and found a lone elderly Rynjin. At first he was terrified but the old Rynjin smiled and bade him have no fear. It wasn't the tone of his voice or the sincerity of his look that set the stable boy's fear to rest, it was the toothless grin, for he thought, 'If he has no teeth, he can not eat me!' In typical Trynnie fashion he excitedly exchanged all sorts of tales with the 'old fish' as he called him. One such tale catches your eye: 'Among my people I am... well was a great Chieftain. The young they so soon forget the histories and well..' sadly he whispers, 'they have forgotten me. I alone could wield the Trident of our Fathers to its greatest potential, for I alone possessed its secrets.' Apparently this trident could call forth great waves to wash away the enemy, or draw lightning from the very heavens. Surely just an old fish tale you think. All too soon the entries turn to mourning as our stable boy's friend dies in his age. Aha! What is this?! Our stable boy has received a trinket from the old fish. He has hidden it in Marten's secret home among the trees. You ponder where this secret home might be, surely you have explored all of Trynton and no such place exists. Or does it? Alas, there are no more entries. Whatever befell the stable boy happened not long ago though you judge by the date upon this final entry. |
A shiny metal plate catches your eye in the crocodile pen of the zoo
and upon trying to take possession of it you find you have to battle the
beasts and kill each one. No tricks with drugged meat here! One croc seems
to have not digested his last meal and you find a Trynnie Token floating
in the pen after the combat. Realizing it could have been from the Stable
Boy you are saddened at first, but soon become excited and search diligently to find where it might be used.
Weary of your day battling sprites, insects, and plants among the branches you decide to return to the calmer area near the restorative fountain of water nearer the ground, giving up your search for a time. As you leave the elevator and pass the archway a voice whispers, 'Enter friend.' You stare in amazement as a wooden plank bridge mysteriously grows from this once empty archway winding its way south to the mountain edge. You walk gingerly across this bridge lest it fail, but it holds true and soon you enter a cave. Not truly a cave, but a home built within the mountainside. |
Here you find evidence of Marten. Some scraps of paper with garbled unintelligible writings and an old HLL uniform. A glint in the corner catches your eye and you reach down and retrieve the Trident Amulet. In your excitement you nearly trip over the Trynnie Breastplate lying on the ground. The rest of the party ignores it but the Hobbit Rogue in your group quickly snatches it and tries it on for size. |
For some time your party carries the Amulet with them wondering just what should be done with it. Then just as you begin to give up hope you stumble upon a band of Rynjin in the Swamp that seem to be guarding something. Many of them attack the party immediately, but one flees the combat area and remains just out of range, watching you intently. As the Overlord falls so too, does his weapon. Once all is calm you pick up this Trident and examine it closely. An indentation just where the tines come together at the handle catches your eye. With trembling hands you carefully insert the Trident Amulet. The two meld together and the weapon shimmers and flashes as sparks jump across the tines. |
The lone Rynjin who fled previously has become friendly and approaches you. Speaking only to your mind he tells you there are few left who honor the old Chief, but if they see the Trident they will fight to protect the bearer. He continues to show you images, terrible images, of death and enslavement these faithful have been subjected to. His pain... their pain.... is almost unbearable. Just when you can not withstand another moment he ceases the images and asks to join with the party. He will guide you through the tunnels to his home, if for nothing more than to see an end to the cruel and torturous rule of Xiphias Gladius, the current Overlord. |
Upon entering Bayjin from the tunnels three Sentries attack the party
without mercy. Two Thralls nearby begin to run away but glance back over
their shoulders and behold the Trident shimmering in your hands. Immediately
they join in the battle and charge the Sentries. Besieged from three sides
the Sentries perish quickly. Your new found comrade, Holacanthus Arcuatus,
leads you to the young Chieftain, Kihi-kihi, son of the elder Rynjin who
had befriended the stable boy.
In the huts the cruel Overlord and his faithful await. With the aid of your new allies they fall quickly. Those Sentries still alive patrolling the area quickly surrender as Xiphias Gladius falls. Pledging their loyalty to Kihi-kihi, the rift among the Rynjin is healed and the party finds themselves among faithful friends. Those who would not pledge their loyalty to Kihi-kihi have fled into the shallows..... |
The party receives 400,000 experience and can now trade with Po'opa'a, the lone Empath in the Cabana just before entering Bayjin Shallows. He seems to have quite a nice supply of solar powerpaks, perhaps salvaged from the spacecraft that crashed nearby.... |
