Training Skills in General |
On this page will be listed training techniques that involve a number of skills. These are training methods that involve training multiple party members in several areas. |

Another form of training is to camp in a place that is likely to generate
encounters. This allows your entire team to practice, rather than just
the casters, and earn experience points. Casters can choose which spells
to cast to focus on the book and realm. Fighters get to build their ranged
and close skills. You may gain some needed loot as well.
In the monastery, there is a corner room near the green slime room, with hidden boots near one door and blue potions on a table near the other. There is a buttress-like structure coming out of the corner. Back your team in the corner where you can see both hallways and camp. When you get interrupted, the critters are generally still in one of the hallways, so you have time for spells or ranged attacks before they close to melee. Out on the road there are a number of crevices where this will work. One of my favorites is the really deep crevice on the A-T Road, east of the mace you find, north of the road to the cemetery. Again, critters wait out on the road so you have time to cast spells to prepare. Just don't get trapped there, since it is unlikely that you can run away. I've left my team there with the game running while going to do an errand or eat dinner, and had several groups waiting to be slaughtered. If you're gonna cast area spells, might as well get 20+ critters in range. The hut near RFS is an OK place to camp, since the critters generate so fast there. The bugs can get behind the hut though so you have to go hunt them down. - DeanBB |

Sleep Training: your characters train while YOU sleep. Here's how it
works. (1) Travel to the "Training Ground" of your choice. My personal
favorite is the ground floor of Trynton, near the watering hole, since
it doesn't generate many monsters capable of easily wiping out your party.
(2) Equip every character with the best defensive stuff you can afford
at the moment. Note: It is a VERY good idea to give each character a shield
(if possible). (3) Equip EVERY character in your party with at least one
HP regen item, such as an Amulet of Healing. (4) Put your weakest characters
in the back of your party formation (if they aren't in that position already).
(5) Back your characters up against a convenient crack, crevice, mountain,
boulder, tree or equivalent immovable object. (6) Either remove each character's
long range weaponry or lock their close range weapons so they can't swap
to an extended range weapon during battle. (7) Save the game, and then
let your party fight unattended over night while you sleep (for those of
you who fight in "phased combat," be sure to change over to continuious
combat before you leave, or else the game will just sit there frozen as
soon as the first creature comes along!).
When you return from your hours of slumber about 3 game days will have passed. In that time span your characters will usually show HUGE increases in their shield skill, stealth skill, and should show decent increases in their close combat and melee weapon skills (just to name a few - as other skills can increase with this training method as well). It should be noted that this training method can have some drawbacks. First, it should not be used by an Ironman party - for obvious reasons. Second, don't use this training method for low level parties, unless you have a death wish. Most average parties over level 10 can use this method with success (i.e. - more often than not, no one dies while you are off napping). Parties level 15 and up respond VERY well to this training method, as they usually have enough HP and skills to survive the long night alone without your protection. Finally, if you prefer not to leave your party all alone, you can move your party to a location near some friendly locals, where they will happily help defend your party once in battle. One such spot is near the Trynton main tree, where the Trynnie Hunters are stationed. - Jetlaw |
