Character Building Pages

There is so much that can be said about character building. Matching a race to a profession can have a myriad of possibilities based on multiple factors. So many different approaches exist based on factors like attributes, personal preference, party make up, race bonuses, the areas the races are lacking in, and equipment choices.

I wanted to try a unique approach to explaining character building so I decided on creating charts for each race and profession. These charts cross reference the race to the profession. For profession charts all races are listed for an overall view of how each race stacks up against the other in that profession. For race charts all professions are listed so you get an overall view of how well the race might be suited to each profession comparatively.

Each profession and race page contain generalized comments. These comments where professions are concerned are mainly based on development on an individual basis without taking into consideration other party members and their abilities. Look to the Basic Party Development section for strategies to ease the demands on individual development.

Each table includes a list of attributes, those required for the profession, and those of each race. Numbers in green will indicate that the attribute of the race is equal to or exceeds that of the professional requirement. Those numbers in red indicate the attributes that do not meet the professional requirement.

All Bonus columns with an orange number indicate a race starts in that profession as an apprentice. An apprentice has a negative number of attribute points that will be automatically allotted as the character levels up until the professional requirements are met.

Any numbers in purple indicate the race(s) which have the most bonus points left to assign or the profession(s) that allow for the most attribute points.

Bonus: The number of total bonus attribute points left available for you to assign. This number is the total left after points are deducted  from the race base bonus points to fulfill the profession requirements.

Pt/Att: The maximum number of these bonus attribute points that can be assigned to a single attribute.

Additional tables also include the following information:

The resistance bonus percentage a race may have to the realms of magic. Some races have resistance based on the attribute of Vitality (VIT) which will be indicated as such where applicable.

For a truly in depth look into character building the profession pages have a table of Skills Available to the profession with the primary and secondary attributes for each of these skills. Any skill listed in yellow indicates the profession skill bonus. The skill bonus increases the skill by 25% so that profession may attain a total skill equal to 125.

When viewing these tables bear in mind that not always is the person with the most bonus points the best choice for the job. Also keep in mind that any race can perform any profession if you are willing to alter your preconceptions. Though some suggestions of professions and races are made in these pages, never limit yourself.
