Gadgeteer Development

Gadgeteers are unique individuals who can truly be considered a "Jack of All Trades." They can fight in close combat, use their unique weapon in ranged combat, pick locks, disarm traps, and make use of their gadgets in a wide variety of ways beneficial to the party and devastating to the enemies by the myriad of magical spells these generate.

The Gadgeteer's unique weapon, the Omnigun, may not be very impressive early in their careers but there is no other single weapon in the game that can match its detrimental effects upon the enemy once the Gadgeteer has matured. If the Gadgeteer is developed with Speed and Dexterity to maximize the number of attacks be certain to keep a lot of ammo on hand. You'll you need it!

Do not neglect Senses as a Gadgeteer with Eagle Eye skill, midway to late in the game, can single handedly trim the fat from a large group of monsters headed in your direction. By the time they reach the party, if they do, they will be suffering from so many detrimental effects the party will find them easy pickings.

However you choose to develop them the Gadgeteer has a great need for stamina. Strength, Piety, and Vitality are attributes to concentrate on to keep your little Tinker doing what comes natural. Wait, we haven't looked at Intelligence. A Gadgeteer starts with a little better than average Intelligence, and although their Engineering skill relies heavily on Intelligence, they do very well by leaving this attribute at its starting value.

With all this in mind you must be wondering if there is any race who can meet the demands of such a profession. You might be surprised once you take a look and be surprised again when you see some of the options.

Obviously the Hobbit and and the Mook make great choices for the job and they will get Eagle Eye faster than any other race. However don't rule out the more powerful and vital races, such as the Dwarf, Dracon, and Lizardman. Gadgets are heavy and an Omnigun makes heavy demands on ammo stockpiles and stamina so Strength and Vitality will be an important part of development.

Even a Rawulf with their good Piety, Vitality, and midrange Strength would make a respectable choice since they also have decent Senses. Races with good Dexterity and Speed also make nice choices as the Modern Weapon skill and Engineering skill key to a Gadgeteer's success will advance more rapidly beginning early in the game.
