The Prologue

You may want to go into Candlekeep Inn and buy a weapon and armour before travelling clockwise around candlekeep. Talk to Firebead Elvenhair, and then buy items off Winthrop.  The chest of drawers in the room next to Winthrop holds gold, and two scrolls: armor and infravision. The set of shelves near it has a dagger.

Upstairs, you can steal from the empty rooms or rooms with sleeping people to get some gold, a potion, a necklace and a gem, but if you steal from the room with the awake nobleman (he has gold and a ring) a guard will be summoned.

Exit the inn and now start going clockwise around the keep, talking to all the monks as you do so.  Phyldia will ask you to get a book for her.
Enter the first building on the north edge, (The Priest's Quarters) and it should be pretty obvious what to do here.  Afterwards, make sure you collect some goodies.  You should find: a dropped dagger(from Shank), the group of boxes on the north wall hold a warhammer, the table holds 8gp, and the chest at the foot of the bed(near the door) contains another dagger.

Phyldia's book is in the hay near a cow, as Dreppin will tell you. It is in the far left bale, grab it and give it back to Phyldia, then return and talk to Dreppin again. He will ask you to get an antidote off Hull.

Continue around, and talk to Jondalar.  Choose to fight him, and after you hit him once he will stop the fight. Talk to Reevor and go into the house. Kill the rats, collect a silver ring in the barrel at the top-left of the screen, then talk to Reevor again for your reward.

Hull is a watcher standing just north of a turret near the east wall. You should recognise him from his yawning. Talk to him, and he will tell you to get the antidote for Dreppin and his longsword from the barracks.

Continue along the outside of candlekeep rather than heading into the middle.
Near the monk that tells you about your journal (and The Gatewarden will probably intercept you about here), there is a building. It is east of Obe's house, and though you can't see a door, if you hold your cursor over the top of the roof, you can go in. If you talk to the Priest of Oghma and tell him you are sick you will receive a potion of healing. If you can break into the desk, there is another potion of healing, but if you are noticed, the guards will be summoned!

Go into Obe's house, and fight as many of Obe's illusionary monsters as you can, as this will help you learn to manage a party of characters in combat.

The chest outside the bunkhouse contains 15gp. Carbos is also in the bunkhouse, and has a dagger. Keep going clockwise to the barracks, where there is a barrel with 8gp just off the path.

Ask Fuller whether he has any errands. (A quarrel of bolts is just 20 bolts)  Hull's chest is the only unlocked chest.  Don't try breaking into chests, as guards will come in!  You can now go give Hull's sword back. When you give Fuller his quarrel, he will either give you money, or if you have enough charisma - then you get a dagger +1.

Head into the centre of candlekeep.  Head towards the inn, going on the north side of the central building.  You should meet up with Tethtoril who will give you the identify scroll Firebead Elvenhair asked for. Go give this back to him, then go talk to Gorion on the steps of the central building.

You are now set for chapter 1.
