Chapter 3

NOTE: From this point, only quests directly relevant to winning the game will be discussed. Side quests will be adressed in a different section of this guide.

After collecting your reward from Berrun Ghastkill, heading north towards the Nashkel Inn will put you up against Nimbul, a fighter/mage of some skill, and his boots, which give him +5 AC vs missile weapons means that Amnish Soldiers are little help against him.  Hit him with magic missiles, and have everyone attacking with a melee weapon and you should be able to take him down with only a little trouble.

From the scrolls we picked up from Mulahey's chest, there was one mentioning a contact in Beregost, who is staying at Feldepost's Inn.  His name is Tranzig, and he was the one who turned Branwen to stone.(Found at Nashkel Carnival)  If you head upstairs you can find this disagreeable fellow, but being a mage on his own, his not actually that much of a threat, and how he actually managed to turn Branwen to stone is beyond me, as he wouldn't be able to cast flesh to stone.  All you require is the location of the Bandit Camp, and how you get that information doesn't really matter.  Killing him nets gold, and two magic items, which seem to be random. (1st level mage scrolls, ring of protection + 1 & a wand of magic missiles are possible items)

You know where the bandit camp is, but now the problem is how to get there.  There are two ways of doing this.
1  Hard way.  Head north from the FAI, and then head east off that tile - avoiding/running away from Ankheg(s).  You will then have to fight your way through the bandit camp.
2  Easy(and smarter) way.  Head to Peldvale or Larswood.  E & SE of FAI.  In both of these tiles you will find bandits & black talon elites. Also, you will find a black talon leader, who will come to you initiating dialogue.  If you're smart enough, you will be able to get into the bandit camp without a fuss. Once in the camp, you must get approval from Tazok, either by being nice, or by doing him a decent amount of damage to him in combat.  After this, you may move freely around the camp.

Either way, scrounging around the camp, and eventually killing all the bandits is in your best interests, because there quite a bit of gold to be made from bandit scalps and chests(and barrels, sacks, etc), and there are a number of mage scrolls around.  If its locked its probably got something of some value in it.(Like usual)  There are two leaders in this camp: Ardenor Crush, leader of the Chill Hobgoblins; and Taugosz 'Tenhammer' Khosann, leader of the Black Talon Elites.  Ardenor doesn't have a lot in the way of goodies, but Taugosz has got a nice set of full plate armour(just give it to someone with high strength).

You can probably figure out where you have to get to, but just to point out the obvious, you are trying to get into Tazok's tent, which, not surprisingly, is the biggest tent, found in the Northeast corner of the camp, just past Taugosz.  A nice sentry even tells you it has been his job to guard the tent, which contains some scrolls.  Hmm... time we took a little look in this tent.

Before you enter!: The tent contains four bad guys, a mage, a fighter, a gnoll, and a hobgoblin archer.  The mage will quickly mirror image himself, and then cast Horror, so taking care of him is a prime concern.  You can equip your mage with a wand of lightning, and have them drink a potion of invisibility.  Go in target the mage, and get out.  The invisibility will have worn off(if it hasn't then you're lucky!), so drink another potion(you will probably have picked up several by this point), go back in and have another shot. When this mage is dead(or you run out of wand charges/invisibility potions), you can charge everyone in and go melee.  Taking out the hobgoblin archer is desirable, as he fires arrows that poison.(1 hp periodically) [The arrows you pick up off him are just normal arrows]

The other character in the tent is a prisoner of Tazok, and your can find out quite out a little more of this intruiging story from him.  Behind him is a chest(trapped), that contain a lot of gold, as well as a few other goodies.  Grabbing the scrolls will put you into Chapter 4.
