Welcome to the Wiz8 Reforged Mod v 1.1 Besides a ton of tweaks and minor bug fixes the v1.1 version has also additional content: - around 20 new items - additional 1 new monster model - additional 40 subtypes of existing models - additional quest like setup; involving 2 new mini locations; mass fights and bossfight - additional special trader (if you want to go with modern weapons) - additional small sidequests All in all the mod is now truly rounded up and some loose ends have been linked together. Overall difficullty of mod has been slighly increased Special thanks and credits go to: Townltu; for preparing the animation sets of the new monster and all the other input / help and proposals. Installation: The 1.1 version comes as full package If you have not installed 1.0 before please see read me below and proceed as written there. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you have installed 1.0 version already: The fastest enad easiest way would be: delete all folders within your 1.0 version = Data / Levels / eventually savegames too (backup?) Unpack 1.1 and copy paste only the Data / Levels folder into your 1.0 installation; like this you dont have to setup the *.bat and injection files. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hope it works for you and you can enjoy the mod sincerely Qusari 27 Dez. 2011 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Welcome to the Wiz8 Reforged Mod v 1.0 The mod took about 2 years to create. And it was good that I did not know this from beginning otherwise I might have never started it. It is called "Reforged" because it is an extensive overhaul of the original game. Meaning that you will still encounter the original plot and most of its locations. But additionaly there are several new locations, new monsters and new items, also new quests. Another aspect is that the game is almost fully retextured and several hundered new item images have been created. Reforged also because creating it, was only possible with the Cosmic Forge, the editor which was under constant developement by madgod. In the latest versions of the CF some new enhanced features were introduced which allow for game mechanics and new scripted actions which were not even used like this in the original game. Be prepared to experience new plot elements and surprising actions. Copyright issues: A lot of 3d models from the morrowing modding community were used. If you are keen on copyright issues and if you are eager to find abused models or work and if you want to fingerpoint and make a lot of fuzz about copyright issues stealing and blablabablabla, please reread the aforementioned sentence at least 30x times. I took great care in only using models which are not under copyright issues with bethesda, which were not under special conditions by the modder and yes, I got several email permissions from the original authors of the models to use their years old work for my mod. Other models (escpecially monsters) were bought by myself with my own hard earned money. Installation: Use the freeware superior 7zip software from (http://www.7-zip.org/download.html) to unpack the archive. Once unpacked copy paste all folders within the first level of the unpacked archive (e.g. Data and Levels folder) into your Original Wiz 8 game folder. If you do it right you will copy automatically all files into their corresponding folder. So all files from within the data folder go into the data folder of your wiz 8 installation. - The archive has around 280 MB, unpacked it is around 750 MB +/- It is important that you use a fresh clean install of wizardry 8 and copy the mod files "over" into this fresh installation. If you do it right you have e.g. 1 data folder or 1 Level folder only in your installation. If you have e.g. a data folder within the data folder you did it wrong !!!! You can correct this by selecting all files in the lower data folder and copy them into the higher data folder. Special Files: On the first Level of the unpacked mod archive you will find several files. For instance the NO-CD exe. I recommend using your game with this exe. It has proved to be the most stable exe in co-work with the dll injection. You can use the Wizfast at your own convience in case you dont have it yet. And the ominous bat file will be explained now. Dll-Injection and bat file The mod can be played only with the correct application of the dll Injection. The dll Injection allows to use advanced scripting functions within the game. It is a kind of a workaround to have effects which are normaly hardcoded into the Wiz8.exe. I cant give any guarantee that the dll- injection will not harm your computer system. All I can say is that the dll Injection has been specifically created to run with Wiz8 and several beta testplayers have not encountered any harmfull influences. It is fairly safe to be used. Did I already mention that you have to use the dll Injection in order to play the mod ? Ahhh you ask how to setup it, right ? Setting up Dll-Injection As long as you do excactly what I tell you to do ....... it is very much indeed quite simple. You have to do almost nothing. But if you think the other guy tells shit and you want to find your own unique approach to the situation you are of course welcome to do so. Although your chance of succees will sink rapidly. Assuming you copied the unpacked mod archive correctly into your wiz 8 installation folder, you have several files on the first level after clicking and opening the Wiz 8 Main directory. All exe, some new dll and the CFLAUNCH.BAT should be there. Now right click on the CFLAUNCH.Bat file - Dont use the "open" command - use the next command which means "edit" Your txt editor should now open, if you can read this readme it also means that you can open the bat file, because the file format is basically the same. You will find an entry like this: echo off cls CFInjector.exe "C:\_Wizardry 8\Wiz8_v124_nocd.exe" "C:\_Wizardry 8\Wiz8_v124_nocd.exe" pause To run your game you have to adapt the directory names according to your installation. For instance: You have installed your Wiz 8 game at drive D: into a directory named: "Ilovewizardry" all you have to do now is to write the correct names in the bat file so it reads: echo off cls CFInjector.exe "D:\Ilovewizardry\Wiz8_v124_nocd.exe" "D:\Ilovewizardry\Wiz8_v124_nocd.exe" pause That was easy wasnt it ? (you saved the file right :) ? ) And yes you need the double entries of the directory in the bat file. If you do it like this, your game will work correctly to at least 99.5 % under WinXP and WindowsVista and Windows7 32bit and 64 bit installations. Be aware that windows7 has some special savegame folder and weird shit ongoing which will even surpress unmodded wiz8 playing. There are also workarounds for this please see the various threads at the wizardry 8 vnboards. From NOW ON YOU SHOULD START UP YOUR WIZ 8 by clicking on the CFLaunch.bat file (as you can see it links to the No-CD exe) I recommend creating a shortcut of the bat file to your desktop. Known Issues with the mod: - You will most certainly experience unexpected crashes to the desktop during gameplay maybe 2-3 times. Most probably this has to do with some dll injection issues. (Antone Rapax seems to be prone) Reloading the game will most certainly have cleared the situation and you can continue playing as if nothing has happend. Another one is the crash to desktop with an error message about cycle birth animation. (Entering Trynton bug) Also this one should work after reloading. - depending on your machine you will encounter short sharp slowdowns or stuttering for 2 seconds while the terrain is loaded. The are some new meshes and a lot of new bigger textures. But the mod is normaly still fully playable. Be ready to apply the first rule of the Magi: Save often !! Playing the mod: Hints, tips and tricks: - All encounters with new NPC are strictly bound to straight 1 or 2 times communications. There is nothing hidden in new NPC. There is no need for pickpocketing at new NPC or investigation with the keyword interface. If you are very unlucky you might even break some script. Stay on topic read carefully what they tell you. Not always you get a logbook entry. - Some NPC are looking for items, for instance the Guard at the Arnika Gate is looking for a key. Having found it you can approach the guard, select the key from your inventory and directly click with the key in your mousehand on the guard. Without going into communication with him. There are several other encounters where you can trigger an event like this. - I also tried to make the "puzzles" logically and easy. Most times (of course some very rare exception) the solution will be on the location or even very near to the puzzle situation. If you cant solve a puzzle try to imagine the most obvious approach. I tried hard to avoid superhard solutions or unfair situations. For instance no invisible tiny buttons within a dungeon or something. - The game engine is old the game concept is old .............. if you wanna play and truly enjoy the mod you should be ready to invest some time have patience and do the occasional reload. But since you will save often this should also not be a big deal anyway. Enough of idle talk: Hopefully you get some nice entertaining hours while playing the mod and as always have some fun ! best regards Qusari October 2011 Credits: to all testplayers namely: townltu, muttsnutts, painamplifier and the others madgod for the CF townltu loads of help in the background Kaucuko for sti-images Websites: -http://www.scharesoft.de/joomla/forum/index.php -http://www.elricm.com/nuke/html/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index -http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.List -http://www.psionic3d.co.uk/ -http://solcommand.blogspot.com/ -http://www.worldofgothic.de/ -http://www.scifi-meshes.com/forums/downloads.php -http://www.cgtextures.com/
